Bhairava Ashtami , Shiva's temples

Image
Bhairava Ashtami Bhairab Ashtami is a Hindu holy day commemorating the birth of Bhairab, the terrifying and fierce incarnation of Shiva. It occurs during the fortnight of the decaying moon (Krishnapaksha) on the eighth lunar day (Ashtami) of Kartika or Margashirsha of the Hindu month. Bhairab is revered for success, wealth, health and removal of obstacles.    On Bhairab Ashtami, 24-hour bhakti is performed, which includes stories and prayers of Bhairab, Shiva and Parvati. Bhairab should be worshiped at midnight with conch shells, bells and drums. It is said that if Bhairab Ashtami is observed, the devotee is freed from sin and fear of death. Bhairab is called Dandapani because he performs danda or austerities to punish sinners. He rides a dog, so he is also known as Swasb which means "whose horse is a dog". In Tamil Nadu, Bhairab was given Medu Bhada Mala and Gur Pongal. Flowers and sweets are offered to Bhairab, Shiva, Shiva's wife Parvati and Bhairab's vehi...

Mathura Vrindavan in Delhi Your loving city

Image
Mathura is famous as the birthplace of beloved Lord Krishna. It is a sacred city located on the banks of river Yamuna  in Uttar Pradesh and attracts great numbers of Hindu pilgrimages and tourists every year who visit the multiple temples & holy places around Mathura -Vrindavan. Devotees throng here to experience the pious beginnings of the Hindu God. The city has numerous small and big temples along with 25 ghats on the river Yamuna where people taking a dip in the evenings would not be an unusual phenomenon. I planned for a quick trip along with family during the closure of the year. We decided to travel via train till Mathura and boarded Taj Express in the Morning from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station. Shatabdi was another good option but considering the short route & associated cost we preferred Taj Express which started little later than scheduled departure of 07:00 AM however, was  good to recover during the other half and brought us in Mahura Junction aro...

ISKCON Temple The first popular temple is the ISKCON (International Society on Krishna Consciousness) Temple, also known as Sri Krishna-Balarama Temple and Angrezon ka Mandir, was built on the orders of Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder of ISKCON. Enter this 1975 built temple, its domes and flooring carved in white marble, and the second thing you’ll notice after its grandiose, is the impeccable hygiene in the temple. At the open hall outside the sanctum sanatorium, a number of foreigners and Indians wearing saffron and white clothes are enjoying the high of Hare Rama Hare Krishna kirtan that goes on for 24 hours a day. The trance of their chanting, amplified by simple mridanga and harmonium is powerful and spiritual and not merely religious. You may visit the ISKCON Temple in morning or evening (it’s closed during afternoon hours), but don’t miss the aarti and kirtan. In summer, the evening aarti goes on from 04:30...
